Report: Kolb to Get the Start This Sunday

Written By Bob Cunningham On Saturday, September 19, 2009

Kolb will be making his first NFL start... great.

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com is reporting that league sources are telling him that while McNabb has progressed, he's just not where he needs to be in order to play a full 60 minutes of football. If the reports are true, then Kevin Kolb will be getting his first career start against the New Orleans Saints.

Now I've maintained throughout the week that I believe McNabb would play, but I've been wrong before and it's certainly not out of the question that I'm wrong again. Until I see him listed as "Out" I will still believe that McNabb is going to play.

Even if McNabb doesn't play, he could be dressed on the sidelines as the team's emergency third quarterback. However the Eagles may not even make him dress because the odds of Kolb and Garcia getting hurt are slim.

Kolb will be the starter, and Andy Reid says that he'll play the entire game no matter the outcome. However, it's tough to believe that if the Eagles are down only seven or 10 points (ideally, they won't be down at all) at halftime and Kolb has turned the ball over a few times that Reid won't insert Garcia in an effort to win the game.

Because, Hello! You play to win the game!

Oh Herm, you'll always be a Philly legend. (He recovered the fumble that became the Mircale at the Meadowlands. Google it.)

Anyway, while it is important to let a young kid get his confidence together, it's even more important that the team come out with a win. If Reid leaves Kolb in to throw a few interceptions and the Eagles lose, the fanbase will want his head, and rightfully so.

At this point, it's all speculation, so we'll see tomorrow. Sometime around 11:30AM (an hour and a half before the game begins) we should have an official report.

Either way, the Saints have been preparing for McNabb and Kolb, so even if McNabb doesn't play, it's time that the Saints didn't spend preparing for Kolb.
