Weaver's knee injury will sideline him for all of 2010.
Anyone watching couldn't help but see Leonard Weaver's knee injury. Needless to say, it didn't look good and didn't take a doctor to realize that the Eagles' official guess of a "sprained knee" was a bit more than optimistic.
Adam Schefter is reporting what we all feared: it's a torn ACL. And actually, that would probably be good news all things considered. Just a torn ACL puts him on pace to return next season without losing much if any of his athletic abilities. If it's multiple tears to the patella tendon, MCL, and PCL it could very well mean the end of Weaver's career.
Weaver either already has, or will soon have an MRI to confirm, but no one is holding out hope that he'll be available at any point for the remainder of the season. Expect to see him on the Injured Reserve list very soon.
In his absence, it's likely Eldra Buckley will take over at fullback. Clay Harbor, the Eagles' rookie tight end, could also see some time in an H-back role. Andy Reid could flirt with the idea of bringing back a guy like Dan Klecko, but that seems unlikely.
That should be the end of this write-up, but unfortunately I said there were two starters lost for the entire season.
The other, center Jamaal Jackson, tore his biceps on his right arm early in the game. Mike McGlynn came in to replace him and we saw the trainers checking out his elbow, but to hear it's actually a tear floored the entire fanbase.
After such a valiant effort that resulted in his return to the lineup for Week 1, Jackson will begin rehab yet again and this time will be forced to watch an entire season from the sidelines rather than just a couple games.
Jackson, like Weaver, should wind up on IR at some point this week and could be replaced by a guy like Kelley Washington and someone off the practice squad -- likely A.Q. Shipley.
Kevin Kolb and Stewart Bradley were also forced to leave the game -- each with a concussion -- and their status for next week vs. the Lions is currently unknown.
Needless to say, things aren't getting off to a great start the the new-look Eagles.
