Brian Westbrook Out Against Giants

Time to prove your worth young fella... again.

According to Adam Schefter, Brian Westbrook is expected to sit out today's game against division rival New York Giants.

Despite Andy Reid's comments throughout the week that a decision had not been made, most people with a brain could assume that Westbrook would not suit up today.

It was more of a smokescreen than anything for the Eagles. When you have a player that can do the things Westbrook can do, why help out the opposing team and rule him out early? When, you can just as easily wait, and make them prepare for the game as if the dynamic Westbrook would be playing.

After a recent run-in with congress over the safety of players with this exact issue, there was no way the NFL could afford having Westbrook play with a concussion. Such a serious injury, if re-aggravated, could put Westbrook's career to an end.

In my opinion, missing one or two games is worth it to save your career.

Rookie LeSean McCoy will get the nod for the Eagles in place of the injured Westbrook, and aside from depth, the Eagles shouldn't lose all too much. (Of course you lose something with Westbrook.)

McCoy, who filled in for Westbrook earlier in the season had a good showing as the starter in Philadelphia, and is almost an exact replica of Westbrook.

He can catch and run out of the backfield, can make plays no matter what the situation, and is a small shifty back who can fit through the hole, even if there is no hole.

McCoy will do fine, there.

The only area of concern will be the blitz pick-up ability of Brian Westbrook. Westbrook was a good blocker in the backfield, and with this Giants pass rush, that aspect of the game is essential.

An area that McCoy has struggled in this season.

The Eagles are still working with a patch-work offensive line, and Todd Herremans did not have a good outing in his first week back last week in Washington. McCoy will have to step-up big time.

So, get ready young fella, you're going to earn your pay check today.
