The former face of the entire league is now a Philadelphia Eagle.
The entire city of Philadelphia is stuck right now. They're stuck between yelling and cursing the name of Joe Banner and Andy Reid, or jumping for joy.
Everyone is awe stricken, and rightfully so.
The Eagles have signed Mike Vick to what essentially boils down to a one-year, $1.6 million deal. There's an option for a second year at $5.2 million, but there's no way that the Eagles actually pick that up. Of course, I said there was no way he'd be in Philadelphia to begin with.
The move is a perplexing one to say the least, and everyone is wondering where he is going to wind up on the depth chart. Frankly, I don't think the Eagles even know.
"He's an unbelievable athlete, both running the ball and throwing it," Reid said of Vick. "I'll think of something for him."
Sounds to me like the Eagles have no plan for Vick right now, but realized that he's an unbelievable athlete who will come at a bargain. That has Joe Banner and the Eagles written all over it, doesn't it? Looking at it from that perspective, this makes perfect sense.
The Eagles have said they aren't interested, but everyone knew that wasn't necessarily the case. I was at Jeff Lurie's "State of the Team" address when he said something along the lines of "Vick deserves a second chance, but it won't be as an Eagles." I now know not to take these guys at their word concerning something like this.
I've been saying that I did not believe for a second this would happen, so the Eagles did their job. They didn't want anyone knowing that they were interested in Vick. They wanted to keep the media at bay until they knew something definite, as they usually do.
The interesting development will be to see where he gets listed on the roster. Does he take over the third spot and maybe see A.J. Feeley dangled as trade bait, or just cut? Receiver is a crowded position, as is running back, so that's probably not a possibility.
We'll find out more when Vick meets with the media tomorrow morning. Perhaps then we'll get a straight answer from Reid on what the plan is.
