Jeremy Maclin remains unsigned, while Hollis Thomas has recently signed a deal.
There is a development in the Jeremy Maclin saga. Granted, not much of one, but a development nonetheless.
Maclin's agent, Jim Steiner, says that "some progress" has been made regarding Maclin's contract.
An Eagles source, however, tells Philly.com, "I guess if you go from ridiculous to slighty less ridiculous you can call that real progress."
Well...Wow.
The Eagles only have a certain amount of money left that they can even offer Maclin, so it must be the length and incentives that are holding the deal up. Also, it doesn't make it any easier that guys like Michael Crabtree are throwing a fit about where they were drafted and holding the whole process up for everyone (more on that tomorrow).
Either way, Maclin has to realize that this is doing nothing but hurting him for this year. If he misses significant time in camp he could see himself fall to fourth on the depth chart behind Kevin Curtis, DeSean Jackson, and Jason Avant.
Ball's in your court, Maclin, now make the right choice and sign the deal.
In other news...
Looks like Hollis Thomas has made his decision.
He's going to an Eagle!
Well, an ex-Eagle. He signed a one-year deal with the Rams today. The Eagles had Thomas in for visits and had him take a physical, so they probably offered him a one-year deal around the veteran minimum with the warning that he won't see much time, and isn't guaranteed a spot out of camp.
Therefore, signing a deal with the Rams for probably more money, more playing time, and still staying with a familiar system and coach that he knows in Steve Spagnuolo sounded a whole lot more appealing, no matter how much he wanted to come back to Philly.
It's probably for the best because the Eagles already have four very capable defensive tackles who are younger than Thomas, and they may not even keep all four. Dan Klecko is on the bubble and will have to show that he can be a pass-rushing presence on the inside if he wants to stay in Philly.
So that's two guys who haven't signed deals with the Eagles. One won't, and for the other it feels like he never will.
Also, it appears as though Lorenzo Booker was right when he said that LeSean McCoy would have to take the backup spot from him. McCoy is officially listed as Booker's backup heading into training camp.
