It's time for Eagles to change "Wildcat" philosophy.
Right now the Eagles coaching staff feels as though the Wildcat is something that should only be used to supplement Donovan McNabb and the offense. They feel as though the time to use the Wildcat with Mike Vick is when the offense is moving and on a roll.
I would argue, however, that this is the exact opposite and worst time to pull out the Wildcat. The Wildcat should be used when the offense is struggling to move the ball and for the purpose of reigniting the fire of the offense.
McNabb, although he lobbied to bring Vick into Philly, doesn't like being taken out of the offense when he's in a rhythm. He believes it throws him off, and forces him to get his rhythm back all over again. It makes sense and would be the case for most quarterbacks, not just McNabb.
So instead of pissing off McNabb and yanking his head out of the game, why not use Vick when McNabb is having trouble and the running game isn't working to get a big play and keep a drive alive?
This way Vick gets his playing time in the Wildcat, but it also doesn't mess with McNabb. In fact, this way it could actually help McNabb by keeping him on the field longer and lighting a spark underneath the entire offense. Not only that, but if the offense is on the field, then the defense is on the sideline taking a breather, something they haven't been able to do all season long.
And it doesn't have to just be Vick. It could be LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, or whomever they want to use just to keep the drive alive and excite the offense. If nothing else it keeps the defense on their toes and adds a wrinkle to the offense.
The way the Eagles are using the Wildcat now is old, it's stale, and it's just not working anymore. They refuse to throw out of it with Vick, which doesn't make any sense. If you're not going to use the quarterback to throw the ball, why even bring him in?
Jackson is probably faster and more agile than Vick at this point anyway, so why not use him? There's no fear of Vick throwing the ball if you never let him take a shot.
The Giants are preparing heavily for the Wildcat, so let's show them something this Sunday.
