The world may have to wait two more weeks for Vick.
While browsing through my Twitter account solely to see if there was any breaking news on it to pass on to the 2M2MG.com faithful (if such a thing exists), I saw a little thing that made me laugh posted by my, let's say, mentor in this media gig, Mr. Garry Cobb of GCobb.com.
In this tweet he says, "I don't think Andy Reid was being honest when he said he didn't know whether he was going to activate Vick this week or not. Come on Andy."
So, obviously, Cobb does not believe that Reid is actually considering having Vick show up to the game against Kansas City in his streets, but I think there's a legitimate possibility that Vick is not active for his first game since December of 2006.
First off, let's look at the quarterback situation at the moment.
Donovan McNabb did not practice again today, and Kevin Kolb is taking all of the starting reps. Behind him, Jeff Garcia is working with the second team offense and paying close attention to any differences to the offense since he was last here, just in case.
Behind Garcia, Vick is working with the scout team in an effort to get his legs back, and really that's all he's doing. He supposedly has a 10-play package, this according to SI's Peter King, but that doesn't mean the Eagles will be showing it this week.
If McNabb plays, which again is a possibility, the Eagles will have four quarterbacks who are ready to play if called upon, but there's absolutley no way that Reid keeps four quarterbacks active. To do that, he would have to deactiviate one of his lineman on either offense or defense, and he's not willing to do both.
So now if we agree that Reid would never do such a thing (and because it's my site, we do), the only conclusion is that one of these quarterbacks will be inactive.
Now of course this is assuming that McNabb plays. If he doesn't, then it's an easy decision to start Kolb, keep Vick active, and have Garcia slated as your emergency third quarterback.
With McNabb starting, the Eagles have Kolb, who Reid has already said is his backup, then Garcia and Vick. At this point, it doesn't make much sense to have Vick active behind McNabb and Kolb as the third quarterback because Vick is only a gimmick player at this point in the season. If he were more reliable as a quarterback, it may be a different story.
Therefore, the most sensible move for Reid to make would be to designate Kolb as the backup, Garcia as the emergency third, and just have Vick inactive altogether.
Again, this goes back to a numbers game. Reid would never deactivate a lineman just to have a guy active for a total of no more than 10 plays. He knows better than that. Also, having Vick as your emergency third quarterback instead of Garcia doesn't make any sense because the Eagles don't trust Vick to run the entire offense at this point.
For those of you wondering why Garcia is even in the discussion at all, it's because he is guaranteed to get paid this week. If he's guaranteed a check, he's guaranteed on the team. I'd be incredibly shocked if the Eagles were okay with paying a player to sit on his couch. Even if he doesn't see the field, they'll want him dressed just to prepare for the worst.
So if McNabb plays, the world could have to wait another two weeks (Eagles have a Week Four bye) to see Michael Vick in his first meaningful game since '06. However, if D-Mac can't go and is inactive, expect to see Vick early and often.
