Pitcock is trying to continue his resurgence in Philly.
With Brodrick Bunkley likely still a couple weeks away from returning, the Eagles worked out former third-round pick Quinn Pitcock according to Adam Caplan.
Pitcock was the Indianapolis Colts' third-round pick in 2007, but suddenly retired after only one year with the team for "personal reasons." As it turns out, those reasons were a bout with depression, for which he used video games as an outlet.
As ridiculous as that sounds, we're not hear to pass judgment. Depression is clearly a very serious issue that we don't fully understand quite yet. But why, after going through something similar with Shawn Andrews, would the Eagles decide this is the guy they were going to look at as a possible fill-in?
And more to the point, why would the team sign a free agent rather than promoting rookie Jeff Owens off the practice squad if they're that concerned with only having three defensive tackles?
There was a lot of hype about Pitcock coming out of college, but it seems as though sitting out of football set him back substantially.
The Colts were reportedly very excited about his potential before the 2008 season, but the Seattle Seahawks brought him on board to help kick-start his return to the league and wound up cutting him during the final cut-downs on September 4th.
The move to bring Pitcock in for a workout could mean the coaching staff wasn't as impressed with Owens as they let on, but if that was the case he likely wouldn't have made it through all the practice squad shuffles.
There's no indication Pitcock will be offered a contract, so the team is probably just doing its due diligence and keeping all options open.
