Eagles "Unlikely" to Sign Pitts; Work Out LB and WR

Written By Bob Cunningham On Thursday, July 22, 2010

Pitts will be playing somewhere, just not in Philly.

According to Les Bowen of Philly.com, the Eagles don't appear to be too interested in former Houston Texans guard Chester Pitts.

The Eagles have been brought up repeatedly as a landing spot for Pitts, but it seemed unlikely from the get-go as they still have faith in Stacy Andrews and always have a slew of young guys waiting in the wings as backups.

Now, Bowen is quoting an Eagles' source as saying the move is "unlikely." Thank you random Eagles source, but anyone paying attention could probably have guessed that from the start.

However, Pitts should garner a lot of interest from any team around the league that is a) in need of line help (obviously), and b) believes he's recovered from a knee injury that knocked him out for the entire season in Week Two last year, ending an eight-year starting streak.

Pitts recently held a workout in Arizona, but only the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly showed up for it. It's my guess that, in the end, he'll wind up a Steeler.

In other Eagles news...

The Birds reportedly worked out free agent linebacker Alvin Bowen and Arena Football League wide receiver Rod Winsor.

This isn't out of the ordinary as the Eagles usually continue working players out even into training camp. Last season they signed tight end Rob Myers, linebacker Matt Wilhelm, defensive end Jason Babin, and Michael Vick during training camp.

While Myers and Wilhelm were eventually cut, Babin and Vick went on to not only make the team, but have a role on the team as well.

Bowen (6'1, 223) was a fifth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2008. He spent time on their practice squad in '08, then spent time with the Washington Redskins in 2009.

Windsor (6'2, 205) currently plays for the Arizona Rattlers and holds the AFL record for most receptions in a season with 174. He played his college ball at Division II Western New Mexico.
