Eagles Sign Sixth-Round Pick RB Charles Scott

Scott is facing an uphill battle to make the roster.

And so it begins.

The Eagles have signed the first of their 13 draft picks today as they inked former LSU running back, and sixth-round pick, Charles Scott to a four-year deal worth approximately $1.9 million.

Scott will receive base salaries of $320,000 in year one, $405,000 in year two, $490,000 in year three, and $575,000 in year four. He also received a bonus of roughly $90,000, all this according to Aaron Wilson of NationalFootballPost.com.

Scott (5'11", 238) seemingly doesn't fit Andy Reid's offense. At all. However, a lot of people around the team really believe this kid can make the roster.

I'm a bit more skeptical that he's even got half a chance.

This team is going to carry three running backs and one fullback. LeSean McCoy and Leonard Weaver are locks to make the team. Mike Bell would have to look absolutely terrible to get cut and I don't forsee that happening. Give him a 95 percent chance of making this team.

And Eldra Buckley, because of his work ethic and ability to play specials teams, also has a very good shot of making the team. He's not going to receive a lot of carries (only 15 in 2009), but he plays on every special teams unit and, especially with Tracy White likley not coming back, the Birds can't afford to cut special teams players.

Scott is most likely the better running back of the two, but if he wants to make the team he's going to have to do it in that third phase of the game. If he shows he can contribute the way Buckley can, then there's no reason to keep Buckley around.

That appears unlikely to me, however, and Scott will most likely be relegated to the practice squad, where some other power-running team will likely scoop him up.
