Is this the image we want next week against New Orleans?
It's time that everyone in Philadelphia, along with Andy Reid, realize that Kevin Kolb is not now, nor will he ever be, a passable NFL quarterback. There's no other way to say it. He just does not have what it takes to play in this league and it's time to give up on him.
With Donovan McNabb going down, and possibly missing some time, the Eagles need someone other than Kolb to lead the Eagles offense in what could be a shootout next week in the home opener against New Orleans.
In a game that will most likely be very high-scoring, the Eagles offense will not be able to afford any mistakes -- especially turnovers. Every time Kolb has entered a game, he's turned the ball over. He didn't throw any interceptions today, but he did have a lost fumble.
Even looking past the turnovers, he doesn't look good even when there's a positive outcome. For instance, he completed a pass over the middle today out of the empty-set in the shotgun. The Panthers only brought their four down linemen and the offensive line stopped them in their tracks, giving Kolb a great pocket. So what does he do?
He moves to his right, apparently avoiding some ghost that had dove at him, and throws the ball off his back foot. Yes, he completed the pass, but he threw the ball while falling backwards and the closest defensive player may not have been within five yards.
Then he drops back to pass, stands in the pocket, feels the pressure from the right, so he shuffles to his left all the while keeping his eyes down-field looking for a receiver.
So far, so good.
Well, until he holds the ball far too long, and allows the pressure to get to him. Not only does he take the sack when it was completely unneccesary, but he fumbles to top it all off.
He looked upset with himself, which is a good thing, but how long are we going to allow the future of this franchise to hinge upon "The Houston Horror"?
