Dixon (96) was a four-year player at "The U"
So we reported here at 2M2MG.com that the Eagles would be trading quarterback A.J. Feeley. However, it appears as though the Eagles saw fit to instead cut the quarterback in favor of a rookie free agent defensive tackle from the Washington Redskins instead.
Usually, I give Andy Reid and the rest of the Eagles front office the benefit of the doubt, but this is absolutely the wrong move.
I felt comfortable in the report because it seemed as though there was no way that Feeley got cut. He's a proven backup who could help a lot of teams. New England was interested throughout this entire process and appeared willing to give up a draft pick in order to acquire Feeley.
Instead, Reid & Co. decide to cut him? This move is perplexing in so many ways that the ways in which it's perplexing is itself perplexing. Perplexed?
First off, everyone knew that Feeley was the odd man out since the signing of Michael Vick. McNabb and Vick are proven veterans, and Kolb was a second-round pick, so obviously Feeley had to go. However, the Eagles decided to keep Feeley around and put Vick on the exempt list in an attempt to trade Feeley.
If they went through all that trouble, why simply turn around and release Feeley instead of receiving even minimal compensation for him from a team like New England or St. Louis (who was also reportedly interested)?
Then, instead of moving Vick to the active roster so that he would have a chance to practice with the team during his 2-game suspension, the Eagles pick up a rookie defensive tackle off the waiver wire, after cutting a fine defensive tackle in Dan Klecko.
Again, a perplexing move.
Do the Eagles really believe that this kid is going to help them more than Klecko would have? Now, instead of having a draft pick from the Pats and Klecko in the tackle rotation, they have nothing for Feeley and a downgrade at defensive tackle.
Aside from letting Derrick Burgess walk, this is the worst case of roster management that I have seen from Andy Reid. I sincerely hope that he's two steps ahead of all of us with this move, and still has something up his sleeve, but on the surface this looks like a terrible decision from start to finish.
