Eagles Add Four More to Practice Squad

Written By Bob Cunningham On Monday, September 07, 2009

All but one member of the practice squad has played for the Eagles.

The Eagles put together the first half of their practice squad yesterday, and finished it off today by adding four more players. Of the four added today, three of the players were with the Eagles during training camp.

They added FB Marcus Mailei, S Reshard Langford, CB Jack Ikegwuonu, and linebacker Jeremy Leman, who spent last season with Minnesota.

Obviously, the most significant addition is Ikegwuonu. Each party is showing faith in the other with Ikegwuonu joining the practice squad. Odds are that he had offers elsewhere, but decided to stay with the Eagles. More than likely, the Eagles told him that if he makes the strides they want, that he'll compete to be the dime corner next year once Hobbs walks.

The addition of Mailei is a great insurance policy if Weaver were to go down at any point during the season, and Reshard Langford certainly showed enough to keep him around if the absolute worst were to happen in the secondary.

There's not much to be known about Jeremy Leman as far as an NFL career goes, but he had a rather illustrious college career in Illinois earning All-American honors and was a two-time Big Ten first-team all-star.

The Eagles have done a good job by keeping their own guys around for the practice squad, which bodes well for the team's future considering the practice squad is the best a team has to develop talent (at least until the UFL becomes an NFL minor league system).
