The bone just about underneath that patch... might be broken.
Roy Williams (the Cowboys receiver, not the ex-Cowboys safety) may have a broken collarbone according to Mike Florio of PFT.com. Florio originally reported that it was an absolute fact, now he's rescinding the certainty of the report and saying now that he might have broken his collarbone.
So, what's the deal?
Apparently Williams is telling his teammates that it's broken, and one of Florio's sources said it's broken, but the X-ray is saying something different. Williams was probably convinced it was broken, the source heard that, and reported it to Florio. However, Williams evidently knows about as much about his collarbone as we do.
If it is broken, it could put him on the sidelines between six and eight weeks. Taking into account that the season kicks off in two weeks, it means that Williams could miss between four and six games to start off the season.
Ouch for the Cowboys, hooray for the rest of the division.
Roy Williams isn't a huge threat in the eyes of the division, but it's always a good thing when you don't have to plan for a team's No. 1 receiver, regardless of what you think about his abilities. It's a loss of talent, and that's certainly a plus for the Cowboys' opponents.
The Cowboys are relatively thin at the receiver position after Williams with guys like Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin leading a group of receivers with some potential, but not a lot of NFL experience and in the case of Crayton, not a whole lot of NFL success.
This is a story that will probably come to a head tomorrow morning when the team officially discloses their injury report. Everyone in the Dallas locker room has their fingers crossed and hoping for good news... maybe none more than Tony Romo, who's future in Dallas may hinge on Williams' hands.
