QB Matt Nagy's Contract Disapproved By League Office

The biggest news for the Eagles today was that quarterback Matt Nagy's contract was not approved by the NFL, a rare occurrence.

While it's not exactly clear as to why his contract was disapproved, it appears to have something to do with the fact that he was a coaching intern. Apparently the league is worried about teams designating guys as "coaching interns" so that they can attend all practices, meetings, and any other team functions, but then be called upon as a player if necessary.

While this could create a precedent, I think the league may be out-thinking themselves just a bit on this one.

Do they really believe that the Eagles were "stashing" a 31-year old guy who never played outside of the Arena Football League? It's not like they brought him on without having to make a roster move. They were forced to cut a guy, and that guy turned out to be receiver Brandon Robinson.

The point here is that while I understand what the league is doing, they may be overreacting a bit. However, they'll get no argument from me, or the Eagles for that matter, who said they are just going to go in a different direction and keep Nagy on as a coaching intern.

'A' for effort?

they should have cut a db and kept robinson. he's a player

  2. They could very well bring him back after the game Thursday. I'm sure DiMichele will get cut 5 minutes afterwards.
