Could the Eagles Trade Vick After the Season?

Mike Vick gets ready to throw during his first practice as an Eagle.

Can you stomach one more post about Mr. Michael Vick? Come on do it for the team...

It's Day #3 of Vick-a-delphia and we are still receiving reports on the man's every step, his every pass, his every action. Regardless of the endless reports we fans are still unsure on exactly what role Michael will play for the Eagles. And despite all the hoopla we aren't even sure if the man will actually make an impact this season.

As fans we can only hope that Vick's addition is yet another step in the direction of bringing the Lombardi to Philadelphia.

But maybe Vick's greatest impact will come after the season.

In terms of possible talent Mr. Banner got himself a bargain when he signed Vick for a million plus. If the move fails there is no real economic impact for the Eagles this season. The real financial implication for the Eagles with Vick comes next season.

Reports have Vick's club option set at around $5.25 million, plus another $2.75 in possible incentives for the 2010 season. That is one hefty price tag for a back-up QB (a price that Mr. Banner is sure to balk at). Regardless of Vick's success in the Wildcat package this season it's going to be difficult (if not impossible) to supplant McNabb as the Eagles #1 QB.

But if Vick behaves himself this season, continues to rehab his image through community work, and shows he is still a weapon when he is on the field, the Eagles have themselves some nice trade bait this off-season.

Quality QBs are difficult to come by. Vick used to be a top-10 talent in the league. If he shows this season that the talent is still there, is it unreasonable to think at least a 2nd rounder for Vick from a QB desperate team (a.k.a. 49ers or Rams)? I don't think so.

So despite the potential and excitement that Vick could bring this season the greatest value in the Vick signing might not be realized until next off-season.
